INEOS signs low-carbon hydrogen offtake agreement with H2BE

This article was originally posted on Chemical Engineering Online.
Summary
H2BE and INEOS have agreed preliminary commercial terms for the offtake of low‑carbon hydrogen from H2BE to support INEOS’s Project ONE, which aims to be Europe’s first zero‑carbon steam cracker. The deal aligns with the near‑complete Fluxys hydrogen pipeline between Ghent and Antwerp, positioning regional infrastructure to deliver hydrogen to the project.

Do you think early offtake agreements and shared pipeline infrastructure are enough to de‑risk industrial hydrogen projects, or are stronger price and policy supports still needed?

H2BE and INEOS Ltd. (London) announced that they have agreed preliminary commercial terms for the offtake of low-carbon hydrogen from H2BE, with an aim of supporting Ineos Project ONE’s ambition to become the first zero carbon steam cracker in Europe. With the Fluxys hydrogen pipeline from Ghent to Antwerp largely constructed, this agreement provides commercial […]

We’ve seen NOx spike even at 30-50% H2 blends in our boilers without staged combustion and FGR. Are Project ONE's furnaces designed for 100% hydrogen with low-NOx burners and a natural gas fallback for pipeline interruptions? Also, does the low-carbon label factor in methane slip and verified CCS capture rates over time?
