Centralizing is fine until the box goes down; what’s the failover story and how do operators keep working if the HMI or historian is offline? Also, can it run fully on‑prem/air‑gapped and natively talk to Modbus RTU, OPC DA (no DCOM gymnastics), and older PLC‑5/TDC 3000 gear without a pile of middleware?
