Business News: August 2026

This article was originally posted on Chemical Engineering Online.
Summary
Business roundup: Air Liquide will supply ultra-high-purity gases to a semiconductor fab in Arizona; INEOS and Recuro plan a plastics recycling facility in Norway; Solstice is acquiring Element Solutions in a $14.5-billion deal; and Covestro is buying Vencorex chemical plants in Thailand and Texas—highlighting continued semiconductor supply-chain buildout, circular plastics investments, and consolidation in specialty chemicals.

Which move do you think will have the biggest near-term impact on the sector—and why: the UHP gas supply expansion for chips, the new advanced recycling capacity, or the major M&A and asset acquisitions?

Covestro taking over Vencorex’s Thailand and Texas sites could ripple through aliphatic isocyanate supply - are customers being asked to requalify HDI/IPDI grades, and how are lead times being protected during integration? On the Arizona fab, does Air Liquide’s package include onsite ASU with N+1 redundancy and dedicated backup power given summer peak constraints?
