This article was originally posted on Whitepapers and Case Studies: Zweig List.
Summary
DesignGroup is expanding into Indianapolis to strengthen its Midwest presence and serve the region’s healthcare, higher education, and science/technology markets, building on its Columbus and Pittsburgh studios and existing regional partnerships. The firm’s first Indianapolis hire is Raun Love, a senior project manager with 25+ years of large-scale project leadership, including the $2.3 billion IU Health downtown hospital (with Curis Design) and the 97,000-square-foot Health & Hospital Corporation HQ renovation; he also brings owner-side experience from Eskenazi Health. A Ball State graduate, Love serves as president of NOMA and sits on the ACE Mentor Program of Indiana board, aligning with DesignGroup’s focus on equitable, community-centered design. The Indianapolis growth will be phased, emphasizing relationship-building, local talent recruitment, and long-term investment as the firm establishes a permanent studio. Founded in 1972, DesignGroup’s national portfolio spans healthcare, academic, cultural, science/tech, and commercial projects and includes an AIA Ohio Gold Medal.

What local partnerships or project types should DesignGroup prioritize first to make the biggest impact in Indianapolis’s healthcare, higher ed, and science/tech sectors?

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Architecture and design firm DesignGroup is expanding into Indianapolis, strengthening its Midwest presence and positioning the firm to serve Indiana’s growing health care, higher education and science and technology sectors.

The expansion builds on DesignGroup’s established offices in Columbus, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Indianapolis mirrors those existing studio markets as a resilient state capital with strong institutional anchors and a vibrant design community. DesignGroup also maintains long-standing relationships with engineering and construction partners already active in the region, creating a strong foundation for strategic growth.

DesignGroup’s first hire for its Indianapolis team is Raun Love. A nationally recognized design leader with more than 25 years of experience delivering complex, large-scale projects, Love was appointed senior project manager.

“Indianapolis represents a natural next step for DesignGroup. The city’s strength in health care, higher education and civic development aligns directly with our core expertise,” said Jennifer Horvath, DesignGroup’s president and managing principal. “Raun Love brings the rare combination of deep technical knowledge, large-scale project leadership and authentic community engagement that will be invaluable as we grow our presence in Indianapolis.”

Love previously served as a principal and health care practice leader at Indianapolis‑based Meticulous, where he played a key role in overseeing the $2.3 billion Indiana University Health downtown hospital project in collaboration with Curis Design, as well as the 97,000‑square‑foot renovation of the Health & Hospital Corporation headquarters. His portfolio includes large‑scale work with multibillion‑dollar health systems, major academic institutions, and civic‑oriented projects across the country. In addition, Love brings valuable owner‑side experience from his tenure as a senior project manager with Eskenazi Health.

A graduate of Ball State University, Love serves as president of the National Organization of Minority Architects and is a board member of the ACE Mentor Program of Indiana. His leadership in equitable design, mentorship and community engagement aligns with DesignGroup’s commitment to civic responsibility and community-centered architecture.

“Indianapolis is a growing, dynamic capital city investing heavily in its future,” Love said. “DesignGroup recognizes that momentum. I’m honored to join a team that partners with institutions and communities to create architecture that elevates wellness and innovation.”

The Indianapolis expansion will follow a deliberate, phased approach focused on relationship-building, local talent recruitment and long-term investment. Love will serve as the first Indianapolis employee while the firm continues to build its local team and establish a permanent studio presence.

Founded in 1972, DesignGroup’s portfolio includes major health care facilities, academic campuses, cultural institutions, science and technology buildings, and commercial developments across the United States. The firm’s work has been recognized with the AIA Ohio Gold Medal.
