Rashed Islam, P.E., PTOE, a transportation industry leader who has championed innovative engineering approaches and overseen a growing program across the central U.S., has been promoted to be HDR’s professional services director for transportation.

In his new role, Islam will oversee the firm’s integrated approach to infrastructure delivery, comprising dozens of transportation services provided by more than 5,000 transportation professionals, including engineering, construction, program management, environmental, planning and advisory practices.

Based in Austin, Texas, Islam will work with practice leaders to foster professional growth and technical leadership while competitively positioning HDR in the global infrastructure marketplace. He will provide strategic leadership as it relates to improving standards and implementing strong quality assurance and risk management practices, as well as coordinating the company’s approach to developing new technologies and transportation service areas.

“For three decades, Rashed has shown his dedication to quality, innovation, exceptional service and strong client relationships,” said HDR Transportation President Tom McLaughlin. “As our industry continues to evolve with new technologies and approaches, he embodies what sets HDR apart: A trusted advisor who provides the reliable and professional guidance that communities can depend on.”

Islam has worked in the transportation industry for over 30 years and has been with HDR for almost his whole career. He most recently served as HDR’s Central Region transportation director, managing operations for a region that includes 18 states. Earlier in his career, Islam led the design of some of the first innovative roadway intersection designs in Central Texas — continuous flow intersections in Oak Hill and Cedar Park, and the diverging diamond interchange in Round Rock.

“Our transportation clients are facing increasingly complex, high-stakes challenges that require firms with strong technical depth,” Islam said. “I’m excited to guide our teams as we put HDR’s expertise, disciplined delivery and smart technology adoption to work to help communities solve those challenges.”
