Selling the Boring Fix: Pricing Reliability Upgrades

I keep seeing the same pattern on drum and pail lines: a $300 bracket or a two-line HMI tweak that kills a daily jam and gives back 5-8% throughput. We moved one photoeye and added 200 ms of debounce on infeed gaps. Nuisance stops vanished, operators relaxed, and we gained a pallet an hour.
The entrepreneurial snag: how do you sell that value? T&M gets ignored. Packaging it as a named reliability kit with parts, install time, and a one-page payback gets traction. Nozzle health kit, accumulation sanity kit. Clear scope, operator-friendly change, accountable owner.
The trap is gold-plating. Don’t turn a 30-minute bracket into a controls rewrite. Keep it small, reversible, and documented with photos, HMI screenshots, and a short SOP. Pilot one filler, measure stops per shift, then roll out. A simple guarantee helps cut friction.
For folks selling or championing these fixes: how do you price and package them without becoming a full-time consultant? Flat kit fee, subscription for tweaks, or train-and-handover? What has worked in plants that watch every penny?
