First warm day, inverters tripped on overvoltage when the utility sneezed, the battery chased frequency, and our VFDs threw DC bus overvoltage. Well, there’s your problem: no coordinated limits, loose CT calibration, and zero hardwired interlocks to hold process steady while the microgrid hiccupped.
Everyone talks carbon, few talk harmonics, fault ride-through, and where the trip lands in the P&ID. Sustainable tech is only sustainable if operations can live with it. Write in deadbands, rate limits, UVR/OVR settings that match the utility protection, and an interlock to shed noncritical loads before the line trips your compressors.
Also, spec cleaning access and spare fans for the inverters. Filters plug. Heat kills. And get a real islanding test on the schedule, not a PowerPoint.
