AI summary

The article argues that AI failures in manufacturing aren’t due to the technology or the workforce, but to treating AI like a plug-and-play tool instead of a new hire. It urges giving AI proper onboarding—context, floor exposure, training, clear roles, and feedback—so it can learn your processes and deliver value alongside operators.

How do you “onboard” AI in your operations today, and what practices have helped it learn your shop-floor realities like a new team member would?

Your AI Needs Training. Not Your Workers.

This article was originally posted on manufacturingtomorrow.com.
The AI isn't the problem. And neither are your workers. The problem is that nobody treated the AI like what it actually is: a new hire who hasn't stood on your floor yet.

In aerospace we don’t let a new analyst sign off margins until they’ve lived in the data: failure reports, strain‑gauge time histories, NCRs, and shop‑floor quirks. Do the same with AI by pairing it with a checker, feeding it real test/inspection data, and tracking its error modes like a competency matrix so you know when (and when not) to trust it.
