A Feast for the Eyes! | Walk-in Dream Closet Part 2

This article was originally posted on The Wood Whisperer.
Summary
Part 2 wraps up the Walk-In Dream Closet build by shop-constructing a lower chest of drawers and an upper three-door cabinet with rabbets and dados, dialing in joinery and workpiece sizing for an exact fit. It covers building drawers and installing Blum undermount slides, crafting Mission-style frame-and-panel doors, and a precise technique for attaching drawer fronts. The cabinets are installed, scribed, trimmed, finished, and then fitted with the completed fronts and doors. A tools and materials list is included.

Which step do you find most challenging: installing undermount slides, building frame-and-panel doors, or fitting and scribing cabinets to the space—and why?

The Walk-In Dream Closet concludes with the construction of the lower chest of drawers, the upper three-door cabinet, as well as the associated drawer fronts and doors. I’ll even show you a great technique for attaching drawer fronts.

These smaller two pieces will be constructed differently than the larger pieces we made in part 1 of this series. Both the upper and lower cabinets will be fully constructed in the shop using rabbets and dados. Since the upper case needs doors and the lower case needs drawers, building everything in the shop really makes life a lot easier.

I’ll show you how to size your joinery and workpieces to get an exact final dimension that fits perfectly into the final space. For the bottom cabinet, I’ll show you how to build the drawers as well as hang the drawers using Blum undermount slides. For the upper case I’ll show you how to build beautiful frame and panel doors with hints of the Mission style.

I will then spend a good deal of time showing you a great technique for attaching drawer fronts.

Both cabinets are then installed in the space, trimmed, scribed and finished. With the drawer fronts and doors already fully constructed, the final step is simply adding them to the cases.
