Nine Finalists Redefining the Role of Finance in AEC

Across the AEC industry, finance professionals are taking on increasingly strategic roles within their firms. They are helping leadership teams navigate growth and ownership transitions, introducing new technology and better data, strengthening operations, managing risk, and turning financial insight into decisions that shape the future of their organizations. The finalists for the 2026 Financial Leadership Awards (the Finnies) exemplify that expanding role.

Powered by Stambaugh Ness and presented in partnership with Zweig Group, the Finnies recognize exceptional AEC finance professionals who demonstrate strategic leadership, sound financial stewardship, and measurable impact on firm performance and long-term success.

This year’s finalists represent firms of different sizes and bring different experiences to financial leadership, but they share a common approach: finance is not simply a function to manage. It is a tool for building stronger businesses.

From developing sophisticated financial systems and improving operational visibility to guiding acquisitions, ownership transitions, rapid growth, and organizational change, the 2026 finalists demonstrate just how far the influence of a great financial leader can reach.

Meet the finalists for the 2026 Financial Leadership Awards.

Small Firm:

Michael Favazza Jr.

Chief Financial Officer
REMIGERDESIGN

As CFO and minority shareholder of REMIGERDESIGN, Michael Favazza Jr. brings financial insight to nearly every aspect of the business. His leadership has coincided with approximately 94 percent revenue growth since 2021 and an improvement in operating profit on net revenue from -6.1 percent to 30.4 percent.

Favazza has helped guide ownership transitions, leadership restructuring, and the firm’s move to a CEO-led model while supporting functions ranging from banking and payroll to benefits, IT, and facilities.

He has also expanded the firm’s use of Deltek Ajera, developing dashboards and KPI-driven reporting that give leaders greater visibility into utilization, realization, project performance, and accountability. Beyond REMIGERDESIGN, Favazza shares his expertise at Deltek’s annual conference, presenting on KPI reporting, schedule management, operational visibility, and ERP workflow optimization. His combination of financial leadership, operational insight, and systems expertise has helped bring greater sophistication and stability to a growing firm.

Stephanie Bulick

Director, Financial Management
Atriax, PLLC

Stephanie Bulick brings an owner’s mindset to her role as Director of Financial Management at Atriax. During her seven years with the firm, its five-year average annual gross revenue has grown from $2.8 million to $8.1 million while its financial systems and processes have continued to mature.

Bulick’s influence extends across hiring, contracts, project reviews, employee policies, cybersecurity compliance, and capital decisions. She has also become Atriax’s in-house Deltek Ajera expert, developing dashboards and KPI tools that give leaders greater visibility into project and operational performance.

Her expertise is particularly valuable in Atriax’s federal contracting work, where she has developed deep knowledge of FAR and VAAR requirements while strengthening overhead-rate calculations and audit readiness. Beyond the firm, Bulick serves as an instructor and teaching assistant with the Ajera Users Association, sharing the expertise she has built with other AEC professionals.

Maria Silvana Mori

Finance Director
CSI USA Group

As Finance Director for CSI USA Group, Maria Silvana Mori has built a finance function focused on turning financial insight into better business decisions. Since she joined the firm in 2023, annual net service revenue has grown from $4 million to $9.5 million in 2025, supported by stronger budgeting, project controls, reporting, and cash management.

Silvana Mori rebuilt the firm’s financial reporting around U.S. AEC standards, introducing project-level analysis, industry benchmarking, improved monthly closes, and detailed utilization tracking. Her work has helped uncover missed billable work, improve resource allocation, strengthen collections, and support acquisition analysis.

Her influence extends directly into operations. In 2025, she led a cross-company response that helped two U.S. operations move from below-budget performance to exceeding their targets. She also built and manages a five-person finance services team that generated $150,000 in EBT in 2025 and another $85,000 in the first quarter of 2026.

Mid-Sized Firm:

Jeremiah Fritz

Chief Financial Officer
The Markosky Group

As CFO of The Markosky Engineering Group, Jeremiah Fritz combines financial leadership with a systems-driven approach to improving how the firm operates. During his tenure, the firm has grown from approximately $4 million to $19.1 million in annual revenue and from 41 to more than 130 employees.

Fritz has strengthened the financial foundation supporting that growth, reducing WIP turnover from approximately 15 days to four and accelerating the financial close from roughly 30 days to 15 business days. He has also helped advance ownership transition planning, capital strategy, and operational scalability.

Drawing on deep expertise in Deltek Ajera, Fritz has developed reporting, automation, and system integrations that connect financial data with day-to-day operations. As executive sponsor of the firm’s New Tech Task Force, he is also leading practical applications of AI and automation, including workflows that have reduced some accounting processes from two to three hours to approximately 10–15 minutes.

Caitlin Murdian

Chief Financial Officer/Partners
TETER

As CFO and Partner at TETER, Caitlin Muradian has helped build the financial and operational foundation for significant growth. During her 15 years with the firm, TETER has grown from 65 employees and under $10 million in revenue to 133 employees and more than $25 million.

Muradian played a central role in TETER’s transition to a 100 percent employee-owned ESOP, developing financial models to evaluate feasibility, financing, risk, and long-term sustainability before guiding the firm through its first ESOP valuation and enhanced audit processes.

She has also led major technology transformations, including TETER’s implementation of Deltek Vantagepoint. The resulting improvements reduced administrative hours by 20 percent, shortened month-end close by six business days, and reduced collection times by seven days. From opening offices and developing future principals to modernizing financial systems, Muradian combines financial rigor with a people-focused approach that has helped TETER navigate growth and build a stronger culture of ownership.

Amy Strainer

Chief Financial Officer
Stahly Engineering & Associates

As CFO and a member of the Board of Directors at Stahly Engineering & Associates, Amy Strainer brings financial strategy into decisions shaping the firm’s growth, ownership, operations, and people. During her 15 years with the firm, she has helped guide its transition from family ownership to an ESOP while becoming its in-house ESOP expert and administrator.

Strainer’s leadership has supported significant expansion, including two new offices, an acquisition, entry into new markets, and the creation of a sister bridge-building company. She has developed regional plans for new offices and provided financial and risk analysis to evaluate acquisition opportunities and support strategic growth.

She has also modernized the firm’s financial infrastructure, pioneering its use of Deltek Vantagepoint and leading the transition from Vision while advancing electronic invoice review, customized reporting, and performance dashboards. Across acquisitions, compensation, technology, and capital investments, Strainer pairs financial analysis with a focus on long-term value for the firm and its employee-owners.

Large Firm:

Tom Pace

Principal/Chief Financial Officer
Thomas & Hutton

As Principal and CFO of Thomas & Hutton, Tom Pace brings financial discipline and strategic insight to the firm’s growth, operations, and risk management. During his 13 years with the firm, he has strengthened budgeting, forecasting, accounts receivable, cash flow procedures, and financial reporting while helping leadership turn financial data into better business decisions.

Pace has also supported the firm’s expansion, performing due diligence on four successful acquisitions and helping Thomas & Hutton grow to 19 offices across six states. As Chair of the Finance Committee, he builds financial understanding across leadership and has taught project managers about budgeting, billing, cash flow, and profitability through Thomas & Hutton University.

His influence extends across the AEC industry. Pace served as Vice Chair and Chair of ACEC’s Tax & Regulatory Affairs Committee and testified before the House Ways and Means Committee’s Main Street Tax Team on Section 199A. He also serves as President of the MAC Casualty Board of Directors, bringing a broader perspective to financial and risk strategy.

Mark Holle

Chief Financial Officer
Sanbell

As CFO of Sanbell, Mark Holle combines financial leadership with deep technical and operational expertise developed over 22 years with the firm. He architected and built Sanbell’s internal ERP and payroll infrastructure, creating greater visibility into project performance, labor costs, margins, and financial results.

Holle’s systems-driven approach has helped move financial oversight from retrospective reporting toward real-time decision-making. He has also developed a standardized framework for integrating acquired firms into Sanbell’s financial and payroll systems, helping support growth while minimizing operational disruption.

His institutional knowledge plays an important role in capital planning, ownership transition, regulatory compliance, and long-term strategy. Through periods of industry volatility, expansion, and technological change, Holle has continued adapting Sanbell’s financial infrastructure to meet new demands. His ability to connect finance, technology, and daily operations gives leadership the information and systems needed to manage risk, protect profitability, and position the firm for sustainable growth.

Laura Conrad

Chief Financial Officer
Lawrence Group

Laura Conrad’s 40-year career at Lawrence Group has taken her from intern to CFO, giving her a unique role in shaping the firm’s growth, diversification, and leadership. Since becoming CFO in 2002, she has helped guide the organization through economic disruption, geographic expansion, acquisitions, succession, and significant business transformation.

Conrad led the diversification of Lawrence Group’s services, beginning with the establishment of an in-house construction and development arm in 2004 and later helping organize its growing family of businesses under Prism Creative. From 2004 to 2024, Lawrence Group’s design revenue grew 338 percent while the broader enterprise grew 519 percent.

Today, Conrad chairs Prism Creative’s Investment Committee, helping coordinate investment strategy across its affiliates. From navigating the 2008 financial crisis and COVID-19 to supporting acquisitions and leadership transitions, she has paired long-term financial stewardship with an entrepreneurial approach that has helped Lawrence Group grow while remaining independently owned.

Together, the 2026 Finnies finalists demonstrate how financial leadership can shape stronger firms, smarter decisions, and sustainable growth across the AEC industry. Now, one finalist from each firm-size category will take home the honor. The 2026 Financial Leadership Award winners will be presented at ElevateAEC 2026 in Park City, Utah, where the industry will come together to celebrate the people helping move the AEC industry forward.
